Iverson Tears Up While Talking About His Scholarship Program

Iverson Tears Up While Talking About His Scholarship Program

Check out this video of Iverson tearing up while he talks to scholarship applicants.

Though he has an ego and isn't the player he once was, Iverson is also a good person who signed autographs for fans, handed out his basketball shoes to fans at home and on the road, made himself accessible to the media, and had his teammates listen to slow 70s songs on his iPod.

I supported Iverson as a Piston--till he backed down on the supersub role.

I hope he finds a place to play out his career where he's productive and happy.

Wow. What a feeling it must be to help another human being fulfill their dreams. I think Allen Iverson has been jaded by his celebrity and that is a double-edged sword. Still, it is important to remember that acts like this happen every day through the institutions we support with our money, time, and effort. Institutions like our government and our charities need our help. He is in the unique position to raise the community up and it is important that we all do as much as good as he can for as long as he can because we are ultimately alone in this world. When we reach out to others, help them, we fill a void that may not be filled by someone else. People may not have opportunity.

To share. To impact isn't just with money. It is ultimately with time. And sometimes I wish that Iverson less of his time worried about his negative image. If he can do as much as he can for as long as he can people's opinions will have to change. If it stops him from doing good because of someone else, he tried to break down that wall.

I don't know what's in that man's heart. But I do know that what he did was help 2 people attend college. That's social mobility and financial security for two people he'd never seen before. What can they do in their lifetime that will help others because of that?

That's what this human being--not the basketball consumer--will remember.
