Sick Pistons Pass on Boozer?

Sick Pistons Pass on Boozer?

WOW! The Pistons brass believe Prince is a gem and aren't willing to let him go for Boozer.

Utah Jazz fans are thanking the gods of failed trades today, as they should.

Why on earth is Prince so valuable to the Pistons? There's a skinny slasher that can shoot a J on every court from here to Venice Beach. If you want a replacement for Prince, I'll go get you one for nothing more than a sandwich and a kit-kat bar.

This is probably the sickest non-trade of the summer, but the Knicks aren't done not doing anything yet...

Prince is a glue guy who keeps teams together. Pretty much any GM in the league wants him.

His honors include:

2004 NBA Champion
2004–05 NBA All-Defensive Second Team
2005–06 NBA All-Defensive Second Team
2006–07 NBA All-Defensive Second Team
2007–08 NBA All-Defensive Second Team
Gold Medal with Team USA, 2007 Tournament of Americas Olympic Qualifiers
Gold Medal with Team USA, 2008 Summer Olympics

Boozer is fragile and has missed a lot of games with the Jazz and he's all about getting the next big pay day.

Also the Pistons would be giving up a rotation piece for Boozer who could walk after just one year.

Boris, I have to disagree. A "glue guy" can come much cheaper than Prince, and you probably missed your best opportunity to grab some real talent for him.

Derek Fisher is a glue guy, but he's the last option on the Lakers. You need a cheap vet for that role, not a 2nd team defender.

The Pistons got stomped like a narc in a biker rally in the playoffs last season -- and in the East, which is still pretty soft. They are rebuilding, so it doesn't really matter if you have an adhesive player on the floor. Grab all of the talent that you can find, and don't horde guards and SF's, they are a dime a dozen.

If you want a locker room guy, there are tons of broken down vets that can show the kids they way of the League. In fact, I think Dumars is serenading a few as we speak. :man12:

Scottie Pippen was a glue guy for Michael Jordan's Bulls. He wasn't too cheap.

Trading a glue guy in Billups for a fading star in Iverson didn't work out so well on the floor (but did wonders with the salary cap).

I take it you consider Boozer, who played just 37 games last year and 276 of a possible 410 games for the Jazz over the last 5 years, would become a steady (and long term?) star rotation piece for the Pistons?

The Redeem Team was loaded with stars, but Prince was valued for being a good teammate and role player who did the hustle work and kept that squad together.

Big Ben Wallace may be available, but he's running on fumes. IF Dumars brought him back, it'd be because there's no one else, and he'd help sell tickets for nostalgic fans rather than actually help the Pistons win.

I'll be curious to see what happens on the Boozer and Big Ben fronts.

The fact is that for as clutch as Tayshun Prince is, he is not a go-to player and Carlos Boozer is. For the Pistons to have someone with that tag, who has played in the frontcourt of the Conference FInalist, and plays the power positions, it would be wise not to pass up on this.

Detroit better not have been the one to say no. I don't care if Boozer gets in Villanueva's way as a starter in this league. He's a difference-making post player. That's not easy to come by.

Boozer is definitely a post up threat.

In Utah, though, he isn't seen as a clutch player who can carry his team on his back (or be a leader).

I like his talent. I'm just not convinced he'd make the Pistons better, and he has a worse defensive rap than Villanueva and Gordon.
