Will Bynum the Pistons' Franchise Player?

MLive.com Full Court Press:
Conclusions: The Stuckey/Bynum debate is going to rage on the entire season. I compared career numbers above, simply because with this season only 11 games old, I felt like the sample size is way too small. But let's be real: to this point in the season, Bynum has out-played Stuckey by a wide margin. That could certainly even out as the season progresses, but to this point, it's been pretty glaring to anyone who has watched the team.

Who knows how the Pistons truly envision Bynum. It makes perfect sense to keep him in the role he's in, as a ball of energy off the bench who changes the pace of the game, who fearlessly attacks the basket and whose effort can never be questioned. But at the same time, if you're Will Bynum, you certainly want the chance at a starting job in the NBA, right? He's young and still relatively unproven, and most young and talented guys don't necessarily aspire to being sixth men, especially with free agency looming and several teams that will have cap space.

It's going to be interesting to see whether the Pistons view Stuckey/Bynum combination as more of a competition than a combo as the season moves along.

Bynum (27 minutes per game) has been a more efficient player than Stuckey (37 minutes per game). He's also a more experienced player. And it would remain to be seen how Bynum will fare if given starter's minutes and matched up against big opposing guards.

The article seems to overlook that Bynum is a restricted free agent at the end of this season while Stuckey's rookie contract will expire at the end of the 2011-2012 season.

IMHO, Bynum is emerging as a Sixth Man of the Year candidate. Even so, in this economy with the lowered salary cap, the odds are against Bynum getting a starting salary-type contract.

He's also enamored with his situation in Detroit. The odds favor the Pistons keeping Bynum.

Hayes makes some good points, but overlooks others.

It's a hoot watching Piston fans and media trashing their own talent.

Bynmite's a great spark plug. Stuckey has the tools to be an all star. Kobe likes him more than Piston fans do.
Anybody want some Magic Johnson?
