Pistons Fire Curry

Dumars discusses the firing of Michael Curry.

He goes over the firing in another interview.

This happened on the heels of the teleconference with the fans. Dumars didn't breathe a word of it then.
Yikes.

This firing leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Dumars had his reasons. But going forward, he needs to hire a coach who'll be around 4-5 years from now. The team can't have any more of musical chair coaches if it's to return to championship contention.

A season of rebuilding, no doubt. Who do you want as a replacement?

Collins was Dumars' first choice. I would've hesitated about him, but would've gone on board.

I'd like to see Avery Johnson, but if the Pistons can't get him, I believe John Kuester and Tom Thibodeau could be good head coaches though neither has prior NBA head coaching experience.

Kuester was part of Larry Brown's staff when the Pistons won the '04 championship and helped the Cavs have their best franchise season.

Thibodeau helped the Celts elevate their defense in '07 en route to their 17th championship.

Either may turn out to be placeholders for Bill Laimbeer down the road once Laimbeer gets some time as an NBA assistant under his belt.
