Detroit Pistons 2010 Open Practice

The Pistons open practice on Saturday, October 2, 2010 was fun to watch.

Trainer guru Arnie Kander led the Pistons through a set of his unique stretches. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took some ideas from yoga and/or tai chi.

Then the team went through a three-man full court layup drill. I got a kick out of seeing Coach Kuester join in, passing the ball, running down the court, and laying it in.

Interestingly, Rasheed Wallace made a cameo appearance at the game. Calls of “Sheed!” rang through the air as he came out of the players’ entrance where I sat a few rows away. He looked slim in his black sweats. If he kept himself in shape, he could still play on the court now.

Wallace sat in the press row for a few minutes as the layup drill went on, then left to another round of “Sheed” chants before the team scrimmage got underway. It’s nice that he showed up in Detroit rather than Boston or Portland, but I wonder why he came at all? If it wasn’t to sound out the waters on him coming back in midseason for a stint, then I’d speculate that he came just to rap with his old teammates.
