LAS VEGAS, July 11 – Day two of the NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS tipped off with the Detroit Pistons topping the Toronto Raptors 91-87 at the COX Pavilion on the campus of University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Austin Daye and DaJuan Summers led the Pistons with 19 points apiece and Quincy Douby tallied a game-high 21 points for the Raptors.
"I was very dedicated to get my shot ready for the game, me and DaJuan (Summers) went to the gym early this morning, and we did a good job of that and it showed in the game today,” said Daye about today’s performance.
In a closely contested first half, the Pistons took a 49-44 advantage at the half, led by Summers with 13 points.
The Pistons opened up a nine-point lead in the third led by Daye who tallied nine points in the period. The Raptors mounted a comeback in the fourth and tied the game twice early in the fourth but it was the Pistons who finished the game strong.
Both teams return to action on Monday as the Pistons (2-0) host the Warriors at 7 p.m. and the Raptors (0-2) take on the Trail Blazers at 5 p.m.

LAS VEGAS — Pistons assistant coach Darrell Walker said the plan called for more minutes for rookie Austin Daye after playing 19 minutes in Friday night’s summer-league opener.
He wasn’t kidding.
Daye played the entire 40 minutes (summer-league rules) Saturday afternoon, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds as the Pistons beat the Toronto Raptors, 91-87.
He displayed the potential that prompted the Pistons to use the 15th pick of the first round in June’s NBA draft on the skinny, 6-foot-11 forward from Gonzaga.
“I just wanted to see what he had,” Walker said. “Sometimes it’s hard to get in the flow if you only play 15, 17 minutes.
“I left him out there, let him get some shots up, ran some plays for him. He made some nice plays. He has a chance to be a nice basketball player.”
Daye shot 8-for-14 from the field, hitting two triples, but it was his use on the pick-and-roll that should have Pistons fans salivating.
The Pistons (2-0 summer league) used him as the primary ballhandler, and when he came off the pick he used his height to see the floor.
He set up DaJuan Summers for a dunk and made another nice decision early for two quick assists.
“I was kind of surprised that I was in that good a shape,” Daye said. “In the second half I was winded, but I got through it though.”
His weight is still an issue.
“I think he’s about where he’s to be expected,” Walker said. “He’s a thin player so let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
Second-round pick Jonas Jerebko added seven rebounds and 12 points, and Summers grabbed six boards for the Pistons. Deron Washington, a second-round pick in 2008, chipped in 13 points.
Former Wolverine Brent Petway and former Piston Smush Parker scored six points apiece for the Raptors (0-2).
