Pistons shine in summer league win vs. Knicks

LAS VEGAS -- The Detroit Pistons improved their summer league record to 3-1 with Wednesday's 96-73 win against the New York Knicks.
There were several solid performances by Detroit players, but there were a handful of players whose performance stood out. They were:
• Austin Daye -- The knock on him is he's not strong enough. But the 6-10 wing showed a willingness to bang inside, as well as enough smarts to abuse smaller defenders in the post. He led all scorers with 27 points with an array of off-the-dribble moves as well as a nice spot-up jumper.
• DaJuan Summers -- Summers has been the second-round steal of the draft thus far. Despite being 6-8, he can bang with the best of them in the post. He also has shown the ability to put the ball on the floor and knock down the mid-range jumper -- two of the biggest question marks about his game. Summers is averaging a team-best 19.5 points per game, and poured in 26 on Wednesday.
• Sean Singletary -- He's looking to find a spot as Detroit's third point guard. He didn't play a ton of minutes but still managed to score 15 points -- 11 in the first quarter -- to go with six assists and two steals.
• Jonas Jerebko -- A tough, gritty player, Jerebko also can put the ball on the floor and help when teams look to full court press the Pistons. His best attribute Wednesday was his relentless work on the offensive boards and how he was physical without picking up cheap fouls. In addition to scoring 13 points, Jerebko had 12 rebounds.

Detroit Pistons Las Vegas Summer League game 4 round up
Posted by Dave Dial July 16, 2009 20:16PM
Sherrod Blakely already has a couple articles up about the Pistons LVSL game 4, but there are some other interesting bits of information about the summer league Pistons around the league today. First, the recap from Kevin Arnovitz of ESPN.
July 16, ESPN: You have to love a player who's useful at any spot on the court. Austin Daye is that guy for Detroit. He's a new wave three -- able to work as the ballhandler on the pick-and-roll, drive to the cup from the perimeter, post up against most small forwards, use a screen the right way, and hit from long range. Against the Knicks on Wednesday, he finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds.
DaJuan Summers was the butter and egg man down low for the Pistons. I can't quite figure out whether to classify him as a small or power forward. IMG's Mike Moreau referred to him as a "Power 3." Whatever he is, Summers continued to leverage his ability to face up for opportunities to get inside. There's a lot of offensive weaponry there, and he can clean the glass, too. His scoring line: 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field, and 5-for-7 from the stripe.
Daye putting up his second double-double in a row is impressive. It's the summer league, but the dynamic duo of Daye and Summers have really been impressive, for the most part. Here's the box score.
Jonas Jerebko also put up a double-double and manned the center position very well. For someone who had never played the 5 before, he's sure taking to it like a natural. As for the point guard battle, it looks as if the coaches are giving the bulk of the minutes to Sean Singletary and the rest to Jeremy Pargo.
Singletary played 20 minutes, had 15 points, 6 assists and 2 steals while shooting 5-8. Pargo played 10 minutes, had 4 points(2-2) and 3 assists. Both were effective in the minutes they played, but it seems as if the coaches have put Singletary at the top spot in the point guard battle.
Here are some interesting other write-ups about the summer league Pistons.
Austin Daye has impressed his new coach that Hoops World wrote about.
