The news of former Detroit Piston 'Bad Boy' Bill Laimbeer resigning as coach of the WNBA's Detroit Shock came as a surprise to many Shock fans. Although it's pretty well known that Laimbeer has always had an itch to eventually move to coach in the NBA.

June 15, Detroit News: Former Pistons Bad Boy and Shock head coach Bill Laimbeer resigned Monday after 6 ½ seasons at the helm.

The team announced that assistant coach Rick Mahorn was promoted to head coach and another assistant, Cheryl Reeve, would remain an assistant and assume the duties of general manager.

"It's disappointing that Bill has decided to step down as head coach and general manager of the Detroit Shock," Wilson said in a statement. "But at the same time, Bill led the Shock to three WNBAChampionships and a league-record 27 postseason victories during his seven-year tenure. We thank him for his guidance and dedication to the franchise and our organization."

There has been a faction of Piston fans that have long hoped that the original 'Bad Boy' would come in and coach the Detroit Pistons, but that hope may have to wait. There is a rumor that Laimbeer is looking to coach in the NBA, but not with the Pistons.

June 15, TwinCities.com: A little birdie says former Detroit Pistons star Bill Laimbeer would love the Timberwolves' head-coaching job.

I don't know if the 'little birdie' is related to Rob Parkers 'peeps', so take the rumor for what it's worth.

I'd be curious to see where Laimbeer ends up, though he'd need to spend a season or two as an NBA assistant coach, getting to know the current players first.

I still want to see how Curry develops and I think Dave Cowens would make a great head coach for the Pistons, too.
