Nets GM Kiki Vandeweighe to Coach Too

Postby Piston Boris on Wed Dec 02, 2009 12:55 am

DetNews.com:
Nets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe is set to become the team's coach for the rest of the season.

He doesn't have to worry about being on the bench for a potential record-setting loss, though.

Vandeweghe won't coach his first game with the team until Friday, a person with knowledge of the team's plans told The Associated Press on Monday.

Tom Barrise, who led the team Sunday night after Lawrence Frank was fired, will coach again Wednesday against Dallas, when the Nets can set an NBA record with an 18th straight loss to begin a season.

Del Harris will join the Nets as Vandeweghe's assistant.

Poetic justice.

Vandeweighe should get to experience the team he cobbled together while saving the Nets for the 2010 free agent sweepstakes.

Vandeweighe (or his successor) will certainly get players, but I doubt that he'll get any of the premier agents.

There could be a chance with LeBron if Cleveland falls short of the championship again, a certain rapper best friend/part Nets owner recruits (parties) heavily, and a certain Russian billionaire/playboy joins the LeBron recruitment drive.

IF the Nets land LeBron, they would be able to get another quality free agent from the second or third tier and move ahead, IMHO.

Time will tell.
