Kobe Bryant isn't in a rush to sign a contract extension with the Lakers.

Bryant is under contract through the 2010-11 season and the Lakers have offered the guard a maximum deal.

He can sign a three-year extension worth $86 million to $91 million, depending on NBA salary-cap figures.

"I'm not going to talk about it," Bryant said. "I'm not going to let it be a distraction. I'm going to keep my business behind closed doors. If the organization wants to talk about it, they can talk about it."

It was reported over the weekend that an extension was likely, but Kobe could be hoping that a new collective bargaining agreement (in 2011) will be favorable to maximum-level players.

It makes sense that Kobe would want to wait for the new collective bargaining agreement.

He'll be negotiating what may be his final contract, so he needs to make sure he can get the most bang for the buck.

He's in a good spot now where he can call the shots. I just wonder how much time he has left to play?

Black Mamba's gonna play Mitch for every penny he can get.

And since he keeps himself in great shape, I can see him playing 4-5 more years. With 4-5 more rings when he retires. :man1:
Anybody want some Magic Johnson?

Good for Kobe lol. He is going to get one of the best deals ever for a guy his age. I don't think even Jordan had that kind of guaranteed money offered to him in his 30's. He would signs contracts at 30 million year by year.

I'm not so concerned with the deal early on but late in that deal Bryant would be 35-36 and making 32-34 million. With a salary cap that is supposed to be going down. Factor all the other contracts, the team would need to reach the NBA Finals or WCF's yearly to make Buss the kind of money he is used to. Also get used to ticket prices increasing big time next year for those that buy season tickets
