Jordan Doesn't Want Number Retired Across NBA Unless...

Orlando Sentinel:
LeBron James recently said he will change his uniform number next season from No. 23 to No. 6 in honor of Michael Jordan.

James also suggested that the NBA retire Jordan's number league-wide, the way Major League Baseball has retired Jackie Robinson's 42 and the National Hockey League has retired Wayne Gretzky's 99. NBA officials have said that the decision to retire specific numbers rests with individual teams.

But what does Jordan think about James' gesture?

M.J. answered the question on NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad. Click on the link below to hear what Jordan had to say.

Here's what Jordan said:

"“It was very nice, I totally understand that. But I’m a guy that says there is no one great player in the NBA. The NBA lasts a lot longer than one particular person so I understand what his point is. Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell all those guys should have their jerseys retired too. I understand his gesture, but I’m in the same group as those guys so I wouldn’t want to see my jersey retired unless you retire those guys."

It's good to see Jordan against this idea.

Hopefully, that'll be the end of this issue.

Co-signed.

This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas ever suggested by LeBron.

And I'm kinda surprised that Jordan was so statesmanlike pointing out the obvious that other players' jerseys should be retired with his.

LeBron's also probably trying to draw attention away from walking out on the media when his team lost the '09 ECF to Orlando.
Anybody want some Magic Johnson?
