Injury-prone Portland Trailblazers center Greg Oden will miss the rest of the 2009-10 NBA season after seriously hurting his left knee.

The 7-footer suffered a fractured left knee patella (broken kneecap) in the first period of Saturday's 90-89 win over the Houston Rockets and was carted off the floor at Portland's Rose Garden on a gurney.

After trying to block a shot by Houston's Aaron Brooks, Oden fell and writhed in obvious pain, clutching the knee for several minutes.

"I'm obviously disappointed having worked so hard to get to where I was," Oden said in a statement released by the team. "This is a setback, but I'll be back. It's in God's hands now."

Oden, a first-round pick by the Trailblazers in the 2007 NBA draft out of Ohio State, missed the 2007-08 season after microfracture surgery on his right knee. He also missed chunks of last season with a foot injury and a fractured left knee cap. In 2006, he had surgery on his right wrist.

The odds for the Blazers of going to the next level and taking the Lakers down have been lowered--again.

It all started with Turkoglu decided to go to Toronto because he wanted to be in an "international" environment rather than play for a rising contender.

I don't remember seeing a contender go backward because of things out of their control like what's happenning to Portland.

I wish Oden well, but a fourth injury in four years doesn't bode well for someone who was seen as another Tim Duncan:

2006-2007: Missed 7 games w/broken wrist and played the college season w/out it healing fully
2007-2008: Out for the season: Microfracture surgery on the right knee
2008-2009: Out for 20 games: foot sprain and ankle sprain IRC
2009-2010: Out for the season: fractured left patella

What will Portland do?

Personally, I'd hate to "hope" that Oden will be fine next year.

I'd try to move him, except other GMs will be weary of him. And talented 7 footers don't grow on trees, so getting a replacement won't happen any time soon.

I'm not exactly unhappy about Portland taking a step back, but I can't help but feel sorry of Oden.

I like to see players at their full potential and not be shells of themselves thanks to injury. The door on him as a franchise player is closing.

I see Oden now as another Bill Walton. A good player who'll help teams, but not carry them on their backs and is liable to break down any time.
Anybody want some Magic Johnson?
