Bonzi Wells is coaching

Their breathtaking play and their stylish uniforms -- all Adidas from their shoes to their headbands -- certainly caught the attention of some, but the real attraction stood over at their bench.

Bonzi Wells and his 10 years of NBA experience returned to the Gus Macker to coach his sixth- and seventh-grade relatives on Next Generation and The Fantastic Four.

"I remember when my dad coached me and how excited he used to be. Now I know the feelings he was getting back then," said Bonzi Wells, whose father Gawen served as an assistant coach for both teams. "I've got a chance to coach my kids and godkids and cousins. We've got a really big family so it just feels good to see these kids grow. I remember I started here, and it's just like, wow, déjà vu. It's surreal."

Wells stays in game shape by training at his home, and he said a return to professional basketball remains a viable option if presented the right offer. He still lives the NBA lifestyle to an extent. He drove to the Macker in a 2006 Bentley, and his fiancée wore a diamond on her ring finger that nearly matched the Bentley in size.

It's good that Bonzi's doing something to give back to the sport.

If he's grown from his experiences, I hope he can latch onto another team.
