Bird: I Hope LeBron Stays In Cleveland

Larry Bird is among those that hope LeBron James re-signs with the Cavaliers.

"I hope he stays in Cleveland," Bird told the New York Daily News.

"He's from Ohio and he means so much to that team and that state. I used to love to go and play in Cleveland because they love the game. And, I like to see the great players stay in the cities and with the teams that drafted them. It means so much for the league and the state. So I would rather see him stay."

I can understand Bird's point about great players staying with their teams for an entire career.

After weathering Michael Jordan and the Bulls, I'll wait LeBron out.

But if Cleveland falls short of championship this season, LeBron's time with the Cavs will end via free agency rather than retirement.

I think staying with the team that drafted you only builds to your legendary status but knowing LeBron right now he rather win some chips and build his status that way. And if the Cavaliers don't give him that oppurtunity in Cleveland this season I really dont see him in a Cavaliers uniform come next season. But Larry Bird is right in a way. If LeBron leaves a lot of their fans will stop showing up at games.
