Detroit 94
New York 90
Box ScoreThe Pistons are now on a three game winning streak.
They were in control for much of the game, outrebounding the Knicks, defending, and controlling the pace.
They went up by as much as 21 points in the third quarter. But in the fourth, the Pistons lost their focus somewhat and the Knicks rallied, hitting a lot of big shots to outscore the Pistons 30-17 in the fourth quarter.
But the Pistons stiffened and held the Knicks off down the stretch with big rebounds and clutch free throws. Chucky Atkins iced the game with two free throws, contributing 10 points and 2 assists.
Rodney Stuckey led the Pistons with 20 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Charlie Villanueva contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds. Richard Hamilton had 15 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds. Jonas Jerebko had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Ben Wallace followed up his monster night against New Orleans with 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Chris Wilcox had 14 points and 10 rebounds. This was best game as a Piston so far, especially since he contributed to team coverage and there was no significant defensive slippage when he was on the floor. His continued progress this season can help elevate Detroit's frontcourt to another level.
New York's point center, David Lee, had 26 points, 17 rebounds, and 9 assists. He would look good in a Piston jersey next season (except Detroit would need cap space to sign him). Danilo Gallinari had 27 points and 4 rebounds. New York's deadly bench duo of Nate Robinson (11 points and 5 assists) and Al Harrington (8 points and 3 rebounds) were limited, but Robinson did spur the Knicks' fourth quarter comeback with 8 points and 3 triples.
The rematch at New York on Monday looks like it'll be a good one.
