Detroit 101
Denver 99
Pistons.com RecapBoxscoreThe Pistons held the NBA's highest scoring team at 109 PPG to ten below to win their 4th in a row with four players out: Hamilton, Prince, Gordon, and Gordon.
They have now won something like 9 straight against the Nuggets, won 22 of 26 games, and kept them winless in the Palace since March 1995.
How are the Pistons doing it now?
Defense, hustle, doing all the small things to win, and getting contributions from everyone who plays.
It seems the more this team gets hurt, the closer it gets. I've certainly taken this team to heart--and I liked them before the season started.
The Pistons controlled the pace of the game by outrebounding Denver 43-37 and disrupting both the Nuggets' halfcourt sets and fast break.
Stuckey (25 points) and Villanueva (27 points) carried the Pistons offensively. Stuckey especially hit the final go-ahead basket. Jerebko, Wallace, Brown, Daye, Atkins, etc. all contributed to the mix. Props to Summers, who hit a triple and got a steal in the fourth quarter.
Carmelo Anthony, who'd been averaging 15 points against the Pistons during his career, broke out for 40 points and was murder on the defenders. Billups warmed up as the game went along to finish with 21 points. But Mr. Big Shot missed a layup that would've tied the game.
These Pistons will be something when they finally get back to full strength. Chucky went out for a few minutes to attend to his ankle, but he returned to finish strong. No word yet on Prince's return. Hamilton talks about coming back after January 1, 2010. Fortunately, Gordon and Bynum are on the mend. Bynum could be back as soon as the Saturday game against Golden State.
Another likely win.
Go Pistons.
